Audio Looper

I built looperate to play with free loops that are not quantized to a grid. You can play with it in a desktop browser or right on your phone. It does pair well with ambient recordings like birds, but also your voice, instruments or other things that produce sound.

Audio Software, 2026

L8PERATE [ˈlupə˞ˌɹeɪt] combining “Looper” and “operate,” is a small audio sampler with up to eight free running loops of live samples or pre-recorded audio. Thrown together to evalaute if the random sketch in my notebook would be actual fun to use. Built on web technologies, making it portable on mobile devices and easy to install for offline use as PWA (Progressive Web Application). It is also implementing the Simple Themes Framework, which reads SVGs of eight colors as theme.

Looperate has four screens: The intro screen manages your microphone permission, the main screen, an options menu and a mixer view for advanced users. On the main screen eight circles, each representing an audio buffer, are moving across the screen. Filled buffers can collide with each other. On each collision there is a chance of flipping the buffers playback.

Installing as App

On mobile devices Looperate can be installed as an app, this makes the software it available offline. As a nice side effect the viewport is often a little larger than on a regular website.
