MESH Wind Chime

#DIY #Python #work-in-progress

Proof of Concept, 2026

Basic layout of the parts of the build MESH Wind Chime is a media art installation that makes the peer-to-peer meshtastic network audible. A meshtastic node is connected to a single board computer and listens to the chatter on air. A Python script receives that chatter, generates a unique melody out of the unique ID sent by every device, and plays back that melody on a synthesizer.

If there is a lot of communication that reaches the node, for example, in populated areas or areas with a line of sight to a lot of nodes, many melodies play. If two or more nodes communicate back and forth with each other, a call and response pattern will emerge.
